We brought the college students to "North" today. For 6 hours, Dave and the students hauled tree branches, and debris, and interacted with residents. People are still shaking their heads in disbelief. Roofs are missing, garages are toppled, cars look like scrap piles. Some folks talked about having no insurance, no tools, no way of waking from this bad dream. It's like a war zone. At least that's how I'd imagine a war zone (having never, thank God, been to one). Trees down, powerlines down, shattered glass everywhere. Quiet on streets normally filled with people/activity. Buildings that were already in disrepair, now hardly worth "fixing". But if they don't get fixed, then what? What will happen to this already blighted area? And what of the others sections of our inner cities that are also in need of help, but happened to escape this particular storm?
So much to do.
