Fiora Grace, today is a special day for our family. Today we're going to bring you to church, and your Mommy and Daddy are going to make a public promise to raise you in such a way that you will be introduced to God's love and grace. You'll be dressed up, and people will take your picture, and afterwards we'll all head over to your home for brunch and presents. You won't remember any of it, but we will. And that's why maybe today is more for us than it is for you. Maybe today is so that we pause and remind ourselves that you really belong to God anyway, and He is just letting us share in the joy of knowing you.
And while we have you here with us, there is so much we want to show you, and tell you, and experience with you: tickles and tackles, and finger painting and play doh, and fishing and swimming, and eating popcorn, and digging in mud, and running after soccer balls...let's fill this life up with as much joy and love as we can!
There are lots of things we want you to know: that you belong to God, that He gave you life, that He loves you and has given you the most amazing family to be growing up in and living this adventure with.
And we want you to know that God is good, and that His love endures forever. We want you to grow up believing that nothing can separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39), and that no matter how far we stray, God's arm can reach us (Isaiah 59:1) and pull us back to Himself and hold us close to hear the thump of His heart that beats forgiveness (Romans 8).
And today while we're all passing you around and you're getting tired and want your mommy/daddy instead of all the rest of us, we'll try to remember that (though we pretend this day is for you) it's really a day for all of us - a day we promise you everything, Fiora. Because God is everything - and that's what we promise to show you.
