Last week we returned from Fort Collins, CO, where we had been in a conference along with the other 5,000 stateside missionaries of Campus Crusade for Christ.
We had several meaningful days together as an organization—we spent much time in corporate prayer and worship, time of confession and hearing from the Lord. We studied the Word together, led by Francis Chan, David Platt, and other remarkable leaders. The name change to Cru was announced, and our leadership explained in detail the vast prayer, research, and thoughtfulness that was applied to the task of changing our name.
The name change is simply that—our mission has not and will not change. We desire to point people to Christ in all we do. Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) exists to reach the lost, those who have not had an opportunity to consider Jesus as Savior. A few short recent testimonies:
· This summer in Detroit, the HLIC director, Terry Robinson, led a partnership of over 500 churches that together committed to a goal of sharing Jesus with every person in the greater Detroit area in a 40 day time period. And, by God’s grace, because of this effort over 3.5 million people had the opportunity to hear the gospel.
· Five years ago a young freshman Hmong girl from Wisconsin Stevens Point walked into a “Cru” meeting very skeptical of what she thought was just a “white man’s religion”. She met Jesus that day and her life was changed forever. Over the course of the next five years she witnessed Jesus save 60 members of her family! This included her father and mother who only a few years earlier had disowned her for her faith. 60 members of her family attend church in Wisconsin and are walking in relationship with Christ, after God first won her heart in a “Cru” meeting on campus.
· Bobby first connected with HLIC in 2006, when he and his siblings got a PowerPack at a local park in Minneapolis and was connected with a nearby church’s after school program, SAY Yes. Over the past five years, Bobby has placed his trust in Jesus, remained connected to his SAY Yes Center mentors, and now lives with one of his mentor families. God is at work shaping him into a man that loves Jesus. Bobby was actually in CO with our HLIC staff team attending youth camp, hearing the Word preached and playing hard with new friends.
What is more powerful than the gospel? Nothing is as life-changing as the gospel! It is all about Christ. Lives change because of the gospel. The above stories of life change have your finger prints on them—because you care, pray, and give people are hearing the gospel through HLIC and Campus Crusade for Christ. We appreciate you!
